Head Office wins 5 a-side.
In a vain attempt to run off any remaining Christmas Pudding the G&H Group football tournament arrives each year at the end of January. This is an ideal opprtunity for all parts of the G&H Group to come together, meet face to face and have an enjoyable afternoon kicking each other for several hours.
This year there were eight teams, split into two leagues of four, with all areas of Gask and Hawley represented. In league one were Sheet Fed Finishers, Head Office One, Direct Mail and Chorley Printers, whilst in league two we had Head Office Two, Chorley Finishers, Liverpool Web and Sheet Fed Printers. After some close fought games and some complete hammerings the two semi finals were between the finishers from Sheet Fed and Chorley, whilst Direct Mail took on Head Office Two, (a repeat of last year's final).
The first semi-final kicked-off with Sheet Fed Finishers and Chorley Finishers playing out a really tight match, which eventually went to Sheet Fed by a single goal. The second semi proved to be another tight affair till the physical effort finally took its toll on Direct Mail, allowing Head Office Two to run out lucky winners at 4-2.
So after 3 hours of football the final was to be contested by Sheet Fed Finishers and Head Office Two. By now both teams were suffering the effects of years of excess and irresponsible living so the idea of tossing a coin for the game and retiring to the bar was suggested. Quite rightly, this idea was turned down for being against the spirit of the competition and so the weary gladiators dragged their broken bodies on to the pitch for one last effort. Unfortunately for Sheet Fed it was an effort too far and they were comprehensively beaten 8-1 leaving Head Office Two as the competition winners for a consecutive year.
